Qualmark members whose sustainability efforts have been assessed and accredited with a Sustainable Tourism Business Award are profiled more easily within Orbit Plus+ preferred supplier programme. This partnership empowers Orbit clients to make informed and sustainable choices when booking accommodation for business travel.

One Qualmark member making the most of this partnership is Fable Auckland, accredited with a Gold STB & 5-Star rating.

Fable Auckland takes significant steps to reduce its environmental footprint, particularly in the areas of carbon emissions and resource management. As part of the global Accor network, the hotel participates in the room night and event footprint programme, helping to measure and reduce its carbon emissions. Guests can offset their carbon footprint by using the online calculator at booking or via a QR code at check-in, offering an easy way to contribute to sustainability efforts.

The hotel also takes part in the ‘Skip the Clean’ programme, where guests can opt-out of daily in-room cleaning. This decision helps reduce water consumption, cleaning chemicals, and overall waste, all while rewarding participants with loyalty points as a further incentive.

Fable takes great care in selecting suppliers who share its eco-friendly values. For instance, offering wines from Sustainable Winegrowers NZ and seafood from Quota Management System (QMS), which ensures sustainable fishing practices. The hotel’s urban secret garden provides fresh herbs and micro-greens used in its restaurant, and non-meat options are readily available, encouraging guests to make plant-based choices that reduce their environmental impact.

Internally, operations have been streamlined to be paperless, enhancing efficiency while reducing waste. Systems like Zambion for rosters and timesheets, PurchasePlus for purchasing and invoicing, and Typsy, OperaCloud, and SharePoint for business management, all support the hotel’s commitment to a digital-first approach.

Fable Auckland is in the Windsor House, a building with rich cultural and historical significance. As a part of New Zealand’s heritage list (Rārangi Kōrero, Historic Place Category 2), Windsor House is an exceptional example of early 20th-century architecture by the notable Auckland architect, A. Sinclair O’Connor.

The building’s history is intricately woven into the Fable Auckland brand, from the name of the restaurant -Cooke’s, which honours W.R. Cooke and Son Ltd.- to the high tea experience that nods to the building’s tea house origins. The hotel’s design reflects the glamour of the 1920s, with art deco elements that evoke the era’s charm and sophistication. These design touches allow guests to step back in time and experience a slice of Auckland’s vibrant history during their stay.

At Fable Auckland, supporting local businesses is a core value. The hotel proudly partners with Kiwi brands like The Spa Nomad, providing guests with premium in-house spa services while promoting local entrepreneurship. The hotel is also a proud supporter of the Auckland Blues, actively participating in their charitable initiatives, including donating to the team’s Christmas giveback drives. Additionally, Fable has used its connections with the team to bring joy to children by arranging visits to Ronald McDonald House.

By incorporating sustainable practices, preserving cultural heritage, and supporting local businesses, Fable Auckland provides an exceptional guest experience that goes beyond luxury—it’s a commitment to responsible hospitality that makes a positive impact on the environment, community, and economy.
